Welcome to "Alati," a charming, newly available two-story stone house nestled in Mani, Peloponnese.
“Alati” (Αλάτι) means salt in Greek. Trachila in Mani Peninsula has a long-standing tradition of gathering natural sea salt. Locals harvest it directly from rock crevices where seawater collects and evaporates, leaving behind pure sea salt crystals. This practice has been a part of life in Mani for generations, as the rugged coastal rocks create perfect conditions for natural salt collection.

About:
Originally built in 1834 and thoughtfully reconstructed in 2010, Alati preserves its historical structure and character, while integrating some modern architectural touches. Situated by the sea, this unique residence offers guests breathtaking views and direct access to the coast.
This unique residence was even showcased at the Biennale of Greek Young Architects as a prime example of traditional Mani architecture, celebrated for its successful blend of historical and contemporary design elements. With a spacious layout, Alati comfortably accommodates up to 8 guests, making it ideal for families or groups seeking an authentic Greek experience in a truly remarkable setting.
Exterior and Courtyard:
- A detached storage room was added on the ground floor, creating a courtyard between this structure and the main house.
- The courtyard entrance has a perforated metal door, allowing views to the sea.
The flat roof of the storage room serves as a terrace, which is connected to the first floor of the main building by a metal bridge, further adding to the sense of flow and continuity.
Ground Floor Layout:
- The ground floor contains the master bedroom, which was originally a stable. The stoned arc roof is a typical feature in traditional Mani architecture, adding both aesthetic and structural character to the room.
- The living and dining rooms are adjacent to each other, with a fireplace in the living room. Next to them is a large, fully equipped kitchen located at the back of the building.
- The space above the dining area is left open, creating a sense of vertical space, making the interior feel larger and emphasizing the light metal framework.
Upper Floor:
- The staircase leads to the upper level, where a metal bridge connects the bedrooms and a second living area, adding a modern touch and creating visual openness.
- This floor includes a double bedroom, another bathroom, and a bedroom with two single beds arranged as bunk beds.
